Our meetings, generally held in the day time, combine a chance to connect as friends, to worship, to learn, to socialize and have fun, to plan & carry out events and to respond to identified needs or requests for help within our congregation and beyond.
We hold monthly soup and sandwich luncheons—a time when the wider community comes together to socialize with one another and to enjoy home cooked food at a reasonable price.
We make financial donations to the well-being of our Church, as well as to places of need beyond our congregation such as our local United Church youth camp (Camp Lorrain), to disaster relief as in Haiti and the Philippines, and to projects such as the Morogoro Training Centre in Tanzania. The Morogoro Centre trains midwives to assist pregnant women in remote areas of their country.
We oversee “Grace House” (see the Grace House tab for more information) which sells gently used clothing and small household items, located at 70 King Street in Powassan. Members and associates of the UCW operate the House, as well as other volunteers from the wider community.
We care for one another and also those beyond the group. We have secret prayer partners that we remember throughout the year, and also “a card ministry.” Cards are sent to those within the congregation and often beyond, at times of joy and sorrow, when struggling with ill health and other life challenges.
In addition, we host funeral luncheons and other church functions, make pies to raise funds and often quietly, behind the scenes, respond to many situations of need.
